advertising : key convention

1) What key conventions of print adverts can you find and what are the connotations or deeper meanings of each convention? For each convention, write about how it communicates meaning to the audience. See the Maltesers advert above for an example of how to do this.

Print advertisements usually contain four key elements: headline, copy, illustrations, and signature. Some advertisements also include the company's slogan, which is often presented with or near the signature.

2) What is the USP (unique selling point) for Skittles and how do you know? Does the advert use any of persuasive techniques listed above?

While the candy has been produced and sold since the mid-1970s, Skittles has seen recent surges in popularity due to its relatively new approach to marketing and advertising. Skittles, as a brand, targets children, teenagers, and young adults more than any other demographic.

They use colourful, attractive packaging and they offer various quantities of skittle products to consumers. Adding the attractive packaging and making the customers feel like they are eating more than just the average chewy candy adds value to the distribution channel and the customer.
