Mise- en-scene : stranger things analysis

Stranger things analysis

LIGHTING:

At the opening of the trailer ,we can see that the lights are flickering and the scene is quite dim. As the lights continue to flicker the shot follows a scared scientist as he makes his way through the laboratory. From this i can see that the flickering lights add an eerie, scary and dangerous vibe to the scene because  we can obviously see that the lights aren't working which adds a sense of uncertainty . The last part of the trailer focuses on the four boys that are in their friends basement playing games. The lights are warm and soft for most of the scene, which gives the audience a feel of safety . In the another shot as the boys are going home the outside lights flicker one more time , this tells me that something dangerous is about to happen. As it is night time, the scene is quite dark and it follows the kids on their way home .

COSTUME:

In the trailer , it starts of by showing us a scientist running through a laboratory.I  can see this because he is wearing a lab coat .The show is set in the 80s . where bright and colourful clothing was seen as fun and trendy . we can see in the scene of the boys playing in the base that their clothes have bright elements to them such as yellow which is often used to portray happiness, purity and innocence.

SETTING:

The trailer is set in an eerie laboratory where they likely do experiments . we see the scientist running through the identical hallways then we see him in the elevator . what makes the setting quite scary is that the lights in the hallway are quite dim and they start to flicker which adds a chilling vibe to the scene. The lights flickering makes the audience have certainty that something is wrong.
