 Statement of intent 


The opening sequence to "essence of wickedness" skilfully draws viewers into the world of Khadija , the 16 year old protagonist from the BAME community. The audience watch as she navigates through the local park on her way home from school, the backdrop sets the stage for the emotional journey that lies ahead.By featuring a young,black and Muslim female, the show challenges the under representation of ethnic,minorities in main character roles, contributing to a more inclusive narrative landscape. The mysterious antagonist , a faceless being with a frightening aura , adds an enigmatic element to the show, appealing to viewers curiosity and drive to unravel narrative resolution.The unworldly ambience serves as a "diversion" from the plight of being a young adult today.

Cinematography techniques such as establishing shots and over the shoulder shots enhance the visual storytelling, immersing the audience in Khadijas world and allowing them to empathise with her - creating a "personal relationship" (blumler and katz). Khadija's vivid nightmare, portrayed with haunting intensity ,serves as an extended metaphor for societal pressures and emotional struggles faced by young adults,particularly teenage girls; this permits people with similar issues to identify with her (personal identity - blumler and katz ). The second location ,in Khadijas bedroom, where Khadija wakes up from her nightmare , alone and anxious ,adds to the depth of the narrative , emphasising her emotional turmoil. The fantasy soundtrack contribute to the ominous atmosphere created by the wicked being, heightening the tension and suspense.The incorporation of Olivia Rodrigo's hit song " jealousy jealousy " as part of the diagetic sound connects the show to broader cultural themes .Additionally, it adds depth to Khadijas character as it emulates insecurities felt by women and girls all over the world  

Mise en scene is thoughtfully employed with Khadija dressed in neutral casual clothing juxtaposed with the villains full black attire, symbolises the contrast between good and evil and light and dark themes.In the final disruption to the narrative , the mysterious figure returns to Khadijas bedroom, leaves viewers eagerly anticipating the unfolding of the cliffhanger. The disequilibrium at the end of the sequence may appeal to "the explorer"(uses and gratifications theory).

Camera blog tasks. MEDIUM CLOSE UP: This shot is used to show us the actor from their torso upwards. This makes the audience rely on the actor's facial expression to see what emotion they are portraying. CLOSE UP: This makes the audience pick up on a specific emotion by focusing closely on the actors face/facial expression. OVER THE SHOULDER SHOT:   is shows us the actors face in more detail. It helps the audience pick up on a specific This makes us focus on the setting and the actors' surroundings rather than facial expression and body language.  HIGH ANGLE: This angle is used to make the actor look weak and small. Stranger things analysis  LIGHTING: At the opening of the trailer ,we can see that the lights are flickering and the scene is quite dim. As the lights continue to flicker the shot follows a scared scientist as he makes his way through the laboratory. From this i can see that the flickering lights add an eerie,scary and dangerous vibe to the scene because  we can obviously see that the lights aren't working which adds a sense of uncertainty . The last part of the trailer focuses on the four boys that are in their friends basement playing games. The lights are warm and soft for most of the scene,which gives the audience a feel of safety . In the another shot as the boys are going home the outside lights flicker one more time , this tells me that something dangerous is about to happen.
